Credit Control Supervisor

An International shipping line based in Liverpool city centre is looking for an experienced and confident Credit Control Supervisor to join their team for a period of 12 months to cover maternity. Reporting to the Head of Transactions, the Supervisor will be responsible for motivating, leading and training a team of Credit Control Clerks ensuring collection of outstanding debts in line with customer agreements. The ideal candidate will have proven experience of supervising a busy team and be capable of dealing with complex queries through to resolution.

Please note as the company has a major customer accounts based in the US, the working hours for the role are 11am – 7pm to coincide with the customer operation hours. It is essential to commit to these hours for the full 12 month contract as it is an important role within the company.

The Credit Control Supervisor will be responsible for:

  • Lead and support a team of credit controllers
  • Assist in the planning and meeting of team targets and objectives
  • Manage holidays and other absences for the team, ensuring adequate cover
  • Maintain the database of  debtors, credit terms and credit currencies
  • Plan and conduct 1-2-1’s and annual appraisals with team members offering support/direction when necessary
  • Prepare and publish and weekly reports as required
  • Manage daily telephone calls to the department
  • Set-up new payers for customers
  • Monitor the receipt of daily payments, allocating necessary information and facilitating the prompt allocation of cash
  • Schedule monitoring of payment performance leading to suspension of future bookings.
  • Assist relevant trade managers in the pursuance of troublesome debtors whilst keeping a commercial perspective
  • Manage account escalations and ensure issue resolution
  • Process credit applications; perform credit evaluations on new and existing accounts
