Capital Accountant – Established Government Organisation

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Qualified or Qualified by experience Accountant to join a government organisation based in Ormskirk in the role of Capital Accountant. The role will focus primarily on providing financial reporting, cashflow management, budgeting setting and monitoring, tracking expenditure and revenue accounting for a designated range of service areas. The ideal candidate will have existing experience within the public sector, experience liaising with internal and external stakeholders, and keen attention to detail.


The Capital Accountant will be responsible for:


  • Providing financial and management information reports for the organisation’s capital programme
  • Co-ordination and compilation of the capital programme including any appraisal of bids for capital expenditure and ensuring a balanced programme
  • Production of budget for capital programme including monitoring and reporting
  • Development and maintenance of an effective monitoring and reporting system for capital expenditure and funding
  • Analysis and reporting on expenditure
  • Liaising with key internal stakeholders to ensure budgets are understood and to costs are being controlled effectively
  • Preparation of year-end accounts for capital programme
  • Acting as a main point of contact for capital programme matters
  • Ad hoc duties as and when required


Ideally you will have/be:


  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA Qualified or Qualified by experience
  • Existing public sector experience is beneficially although not essential
  • MS Office including Intermediate Excel (Vlookups, Pivots)
  • Previously experience in a capital accounting role
  • Excellent communication skills
