A well-established independent firm based in Manchester is currently looking to appoint a highly experienced Personal Tax Manager to their busy team on a permanent basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to take a step up in your tax career and develop alongside a thriving firm.

The Personal Tax Manager will take responsibility for preparing personal tax returns on behalf of high net worth individuals, business owners and company directors. In addition, this role will entail managing the tax department by overseeing the team’s productivity and the supervision/management of staff. The ideal candidate for this role will be an excellent communicator with at least 2 years’ experience in a supervisory position.

Essential Requirements are:

  • Responsible for preparation of personal tax returns for high net worth individuals, business owners and company directors
  • Responsible for preparation of trust tax returns (no accounts required)
  • Report directly to the Directors, in particular the Tax Director, whom you will assist with complex personal tax advisory work and planning. This includes, for example, IHT planning, exit and succession planning.
  • Manage tax dept. by overseeing workflow, supervision and management of staff
  • Alongside your corporation tax colleague, ensure tax dept. staff have adequate training and are updated with changes in legislation
  • Actively market prospects; dealing with new enquiries including production of quotes and onboarding of clients

Skills & experience required

  • Good attention to detail and able to work autonomously
  • Confident in meeting and working with clients directly 
  • Extensive knowledge of income tax, IHT, CGT and trust tax legislation
  • Able to identify potential personal tax planning opportunities
  • At least 6 years’ experience in a personal tax role including at least 2 years in some form of supervisory role
  • Would be an advantage to have used IRIS but not essential
  • No need to be formally qualified
